Position Vacant: Group Financial Accountant

A large iconic retail group is looking for a talented Group Financial Accountant to take their finance team to the next level.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an iconic Australian business. Due to the strength of this retail company’s portfolio they are going through a period of sustained growth and are looking to strengthen their finance team as a result. This company has a very inclusive culture and an excellent location close to the Brisbane CBD.

In this role you would report in to the Group Financial Controller and act as the key link between the key stakeholder teams of the group entities and the senior management. Although this role is titled as Group Financial Accountant, it could in some ways be viewed as a Junior Group Financial Controller role because of the level of responsibility placed on it.

The main responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Preparation and review of management monthly financial statements.
  • Preparation of accounts for year end audit.
  • Liaising with external auditors.
  • Orders for foreign exchange hedging instruments and maintaining appropriate hedge ratios for the outstanding foreign trade creditors.
  • Management of the cash flow for the group.
  • Acting as the key point of financial information for entity finance teams.
  • Preparation and review of all statutory tax information, including: FBT, BAS, GST.
  • Liaising with external tax accountants and ATO as required.
  • Variance analysis on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
  • Acting Group Financial Controller.
  • Ad-hoc analysis as required.

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following attributes:

  • Degree qualified (Accounting or Finance based) – essential.
  • 7+ years accounting experience in a similar role in a retail organisation with a high volume of transactions.
  • Completed or near completed CPA or CA designation.
  • Foreign currency transactions experience – essential.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel – including an understanding of using and writing macros.
  • Experience in Pronto ERP – desirable.
  • Excellent communication, networking and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to operate as a business partner and work collaboratively with staff and others not under direct control.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise workload.
  • The ability to influence outcomes in a large corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of Australian statutory reporting requirements.
  • Team mentoring experience is ideal but not essential.
